Paving occurring
Some exciting hard landscape progress has been made these last few days, with the laying of the brick paving nearest the house. Each brick is a dark but faded grey colour, and it’ll be laid on its side in a brick bond pattern. Like a wall on the floor. The gaps will just be filled with compressed sand, shaken into place with some sort of vibrating machine (I believe that’s the technical term), so I’m hoping that over time they’ll attract some moss and little seedlings of Erigeron karvinskianus, which is in the borders and apparently seeds freely. In fact it even makes its home in vertical walls, so this shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge. These bricks will also form the wide steps down from the house to the pool, and the plan is to have a faint wash of light across them in the evening which I’m so excited to see. They are so perfectly worn they already look like they’ve been here forever.
