Things are arriving…

A tiny Pelargonium sidoides

A tiny Pelargonium sidoides

All windows and doors are now out of use

Well when I started ordering seedlings at the start of the year I thought I’d gone for things that would arrive much later, but already I’ve got some baby plants to find homes for (and nowhere to put them outside). No matter, the weather has been too cold anyway. I could really do with my greenhouse though.

So hello Birds Foot Trefoil seedlings, which have the most dainty little trifoliate leaves. And hello also to my coral-coloured Helichrysum from Sarah Raven. My mum used to grow and dry these for Christmas arrangements and – whaddaya know – growing and drying them has become fashionable again. They’re strawflowers on Insta; I’m pretty sure we just used to call them everlasting flowers. I’ve also received a teeny tiny Pelargonium sidoides – which made me think, how much did I pay for that?!

Anyway I’m afraid I shoved them all in the utility room for a couple of days and there were some casualties. But, when I did get round to putting them in pots, I got quite absorbed and ended up planting some nasturtium seeds as well. And in a bit of an experiment, I’ve tried the nasturtiums in various different composts, because I know they’re supposed to flower better in not-very-fertile soils. So one of the pots is literally really old, dried out soil from a long-dead houseplant. Will be interesting to see what happens…
